Yar, mcahak - it's like the producers never saw Hill Street Blues, leave alone NYPD Blue - and those are vintage shows ;-)

This thing is pretty silly. It looks like a hold over from the 70's. The dress, manners and actions are way too clean cut for the shows today. Really, an undercover cop, that looks like he just got out of the shower and has the haircut of a model.
