- Originally it was the philosophers stone. J.K Rowling knew that the idea of a philosopher wouldn't be completely appreciated by the rest of the world but the idea of a sorcerer would be. To the rest of the world it is Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone but to us Americans it is the sorcerers stone.
